This Christmas was a great one this year. My dad came to spend the holidays with us and will return to Grand Rapids next week. It was nice having him around and we will miss him greatly when he leaves. We had a wonderful time with Derek's Eisma extended family on Christmas Eve. We went to his Grandpa and Grandma Eisma's house, had dinner, and did a gift exchange with everyone. Its so nice to go with the whole family there, because there are so many kids Natalie's age that she can play with. She really enjoys having kids her own age around and since she has been on Christmas break from school for the past two weeks, she needed a break from all the adults. That night we decorated cookies for Santa and Dad read Natalie "The Night Before Christmas", which is a tradition they do every year.
On Christmas Day, we woke up early and opened presents. Natalie is not the ordinary kid who is up and ready to go at the crack of dawn to start gift-opening. It took both my dad and I to wake her up. I ended up having to pick her up and pretty much drag her to the living room! But once Derek sat down with her in front of the tree and help her open the first couple presents, she was more awake and enjoyed opening the rest of them. We then went to church and came home where my dad made us his famous roast for lunch, YUM! Santa gave Natalie a new kitchen set for Christmas, so Derek spent a good chunk of the afternoon putting that together. We then went to Derek's parents house for dinner and more presents. It has be a great holiday season and we are excited for what the new year brings for us!
